C&W Services Update: Floor and furniture cleaning

In Announcements, by , on November 6th, 2015

When the specifications were developed for the new custodial contract, one of the more important things considered was frequency of project work. Project work consists of things like deep cleaning carpets and upholstered furniture and stripping and waxing floors. Our consultants, Core Management Services, weighed in with their recommendations based on experience and frequencies of other colleges and universities and industry standards for this type of deep cleaning were studied. We also made sure we were within standards set from carpet and rug organizations. The specifications for Niagara’s campus were then carefully developed.

Frequencies of cleaning are closely tied to the foot traffic and usage of an area with heavily traveled areas receiving more frequent deep cleaning than others. Did you know that too much deep cleaning can be detrimental to the life of a carpet? To that end, and to maximize the life of our carpets, furniture and flooring, C&W has purchased new equipment that allows some low moisture methods to be used as well as the hot water extraction that is normally done. Most areas will receive a combinations of these two methods.

C&W develops schedules each year for project cleaning, trying to work around break times, that meet the specifications Niagara has set for each type of area. While spot cleaning of flooring and upholstery should be performed routinely as needed, total deep cleaning of an area will be done according to these contractual specifications. If you put a work order in for such cleaning, C&W will do its best to inform you when the next project cleaning of that area is scheduled. Any questions regarding this or any other processes should be directed to C&W Services or facility services.
