Alumni bell towers repairs, roof replacement and site drainage work
The Alumni bell towers repairs, roof replacement and site drainage work is scheduled to begin May 16, 2016, (contractors may not actually be there on this day). This work involves the repair of the bell tower masonry, various other areas of masonry needing attention around Alumni Hall, the replacement of the complete roof on Alumni and some site drainage work which will involve removal and replacement of some sidewalk areas. The largest area of sidewalk removal will be that in front of the human resource office, for which we will provide additional notice as to when that is scheduled. Parts of the building will be scaffolded, but all entrances will still be accessible. There will be several aerial lifts around the building, so please use caution when in the area.
As the building is of significant age, there are some old construction materials that contain asbestos. Asbestos materials on the building are caulk and flashings which are not friable, however, they must still be removed under applicable laws which require the workers doing the removal to wear white suits and respirators and to conduct air monitoring while removal is ongoing to ensure compliance. Prior to starting abatement work, the building will be posted at all entrances with a 10-day advance notice of removal.
As a side note, the bells will be off while the work is ongoing except during the 3 orientation sessions.
Thank you for your cooperation during this much needed work.
