ABSTRACT DEADLINE: January 31, 2018
The goal of the conference is to focus on the ways in which universities, communities, and governments can/should/do/don’t partner to address issues of race, equality, and social justice across diverse communities. We want to know about how the needs of the most vulnerable, underserved, and disenfranchised in society are being addressed through innovative, evidenced-based, and collaborative partnerships in urban and rural settings. We are also interested in projects that are in the planning stages.
The conference will feature:
Dr. David Anderson Hooker (Professor of the Practice of Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding at the University of Notre Dame) as our keynote speaker and responses from a panel that will include:
Dr. Connie Mick (Associate Director of the Center for Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame),
Dr. Steve Michael (Executive Vice president of Academic Affairs and Provost at Charles, R. Drew University of Medicine and Science), and
Dr. Rosa Rivera McCutcheon (Associate Professor, Graduate Leadership Programs, Program Coordinator of Educational Leadership Programs at CUNY Lehman).
In addition, Dr. Christiana Bratiotis (Assistant Professor, The University of British Columbia, Vancouver Campus) will lead a master workshop on how to build and maintain successful partnerships, including task forces.
Finally, Dr. Patrick McCormick (Professor of Religious Studies, Gonzaga University) will serve as our welcome dinner speaker.
In addition to the conference, presenters and participants will have the chance to visit the wonderful and majestic Niagara Falls and the surrounding area on both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the border (e.g., Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds, etc.). For those interested in wine and wineries, the region includes some of the best wine country in North America. The Buffalo area also features some of the world’s greatest architecture (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g60974-Activities-c47-t3-Buffalo_New_York.html).
Please consider distributing across all of your electronic and social media platforms, including those that promote graduate students’ scholarly work.
Thank you for your participation. We look forward to welcoming you to Niagara!
