Social Justice Discussion & Speaker Series with Charles Cobb
Our last presentation of the fall semester is by Charles Cobb Jr., who will be presenting on his book, This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed, Thursday November 15 from 3:30 – 5 PM in Bisgrove 350/351. A flyer is attached—please feel free to distribute and to invite others to attend. This event is open to the public.
Charles E. Cobb Jr. is a former field secretary for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and has taught at Brown University. An award-winning journalist, his book and presentation draw from his experiences in the civil rights movement. Cobb details the vital role that armed self-defense has played in the survival and liberation of black communities. He lays bare the paradoxical relationship between the nonviolent civil rights struggle and the long history and importance of African Americans taking up arms to defend themselves against white supremacist violence.
We hope you can join us!
