Academic Success Center

Ashley Scapillato joined NU in August 2019, as an Academic Coach for Student Athletes. She is responsible for supporting the academic needs of student athletes – primarily men’s and women’s basketball, and outreach to at-risk freshmen and students on academic status.

Ashley’s wide range of higher education experience includes: graduate school preparation, tutoring undergraduate business courses, advising first-year college students in a summer program, supporting international students transitioning to college, monitoring and mentoring at-risk student athletes, and assisting students with major/career exploration and job/internship search strategies. Ashley received her B.S. in Finance from John Carroll University and earned her M.S. in Education Studies from SUNY at Buffalo – where she is currently pursuing an additional M.S. in Higher Education.

Sarah Mecca joined NU in December 2019 as an Accessibility Services Advisor. She is responsible for assisting the Coordinator of Accessibility Services in determining and providing reasonable and appropriate academic and non-academic accommodations for students with disabilities at Niagara. She also provides transitional support for incoming first-year students with disabilities, at-risk freshmen, and students on academic status.

Sarah discovered her passion for working with college students through her employment as an undergraduate assistant in an Accessibility Support office. Sarah has five years of experience supporting the needs of college students with disabilities. She has provided academic mentoring, taught in a first-year seminar program, and worked with students on academic probation. Sarah received her B.A. in Psychology and a M.S. in College Student Personnel Administration from Canisius College.

Academic Exploration Program

Bernadette Brennen joined NU in September 2019 as an Advisor, in the Academic Exploration Program (AEP) and an instructor for NUB 102 (Niagara University Beginnings).  She has 25 years of experience at Niagara University and returned to the award-winning program in September 2019.  She is well-versed in advisement and major/career exploration – in addition to a wealth of Study Abroad knowledge. Her dedication to students and her kind and personable manner is a reputation widely appreciated by students, administrators, and professors alike.

Bernadette previously served at NU as Director of International Relations and Study Abroad and Assistant to the Academic Vice President. As a graduate student, she worked in the College of Education at Niagara University. Bernadette received her M.S. in School Counseling at Niagara University and her B.A. in Communication Studies & Art Studio with a minor in Public Relations from SUNY College at Geneseo.
