You are cordially invited to CRL 101 Poster Presentations on Thursday, Nov. 21, at these times:

Section A: 9:40 – 11 a.m.
Section B: 11:10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Section C: 2:10 – 3:30 p.m.

Each class will present in the Gallagher Center multi-purpose room on these high-interest books:

“First They Killed My Father” by Loung Ung. The author was a child during the brutal Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia in the 1970s.

“Warriors Don’t Cry” by Melba Pattillo Beals. The author, one of the “Little Rock Nine,” describes her harrowing school year in 1957-1958.

“A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier” by Ishmael Beah. The author was forced to become a child soldier in Sierra Leone’s brutal civil conflict in the 1990s.

“Letters from the End of the World” by Toyofumi Ogura. The author grieves his wife’s death by recounting his experience during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

“Dear Zari: Hidden Stories from Women of Afghanistan” by Zarghuna Kargar. The author interviewed women for her popular BBC radio program “Afghan Women’s Hour.” Her book contains 13 stories vividly depicting the hardships and lack of rights for Afghan women.

Please come to one, two, or all three classes to hear my students describe interesting books. An audience is vital because students will be partially graded on how they present their posters & explain their books to visitors. You don’t have to know anything about the books; my students will tell you about them and their posters. You may ask questions or just listen to my students — whatever you’re comfortable with.

And if the subjects of these books are relevant to a course you teach, please encourage your students to attend – or offer an incentive. We hope to see you Thursday!
