Accounting Short Film Competition

In Announcements, by , on March 29th, 2016

Spring 2016 Sponsored by: NU Accounting Society

Have you ever thought to yourself in class: There’s got to be a better way to explain this concept.

Have you ever felt the urge to share with the learning community your understanding about a topic.

Learning does not take place in the classroom ONLY. Students can assume a bigger role by identifying and sharing better ways of explaining things.

You’re invited to explore the non-traditional ways of teaching a concept/topic in the accounting introductory classes, to share your product to the entire community in a short film, and even better, to win a prize and receive recognition.  We know you can do a great job. Learning accounting can be fun!

What: Participants can work together or individually to create a video of up to five minutes to explain a concept/topic in Financial Accounting or Management Accounting in an innovative and interesting manner. The idea needs to be original. There is no limitation on the content and format (song, dance, poem, cartoon, multi-media, etc.), as long as they are relevant to making the concept/topic come across. The best video will be selected based on vote and the winning team will receive a prize of $200 in total. In addition, 1 voter will be drawn to receive a prize of a $25 gift card.

Who: NU students, especially business and accounting students are welcome to submit videos to participate. NU students, faculty and staff are qualified to vote and select their favorite video.

How: Participants should submit their videos on a usb stick to Dr. Lei Han, Accounting Society faculty advisor, Bisgrove Hall 251A by April 1, 2016. The Accounting Society will review the videos and select the top three videos and post them to a predetermined webpage for public purview and vote by April 8. Voters will review the videos and vote for their favorite video between April 11 and 15. The best video will be selected based on the highest votes. The announcement of the winning team and the lucky voter will be made by April 20. At least five videos need to be received by the Accounting Society to have a valid competition.
