Alegre And Taylor Present At Regional Teaching Conference
Mitchell Alegre and David Taylor, Ph.D., presented a concurrent session at SUNY Fredonia’s 8th annual Teaching and Learning Conference, held Aug. 18.
The theme of the conference, “Framing the Future: Teaching, Learning, Advancing,” focused on reimagining higher education so as to improve student engagement and learning across the disciplines.
Alegre and Dr. Taylor presented a program titled “The End of Education, The Beginning of Learning.” During the interactive session, participants envisioned and designed a university that had learning as its sole purpose.
Dr. Taylor, director of the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M. Institute of Civic Engagement, and Alegre, adjunct professor of management in NU’s College of Business Administration, then shared some of their collaborative experiments with various ways to facilitate learning in and out of the classroom. They also suggested ways participants might initiate discussions of teaching and learning innovations on their own campuses.
The conference’s keynote speaker was Cathy N. Davidson, Ph.D., co-founder of HASTAC, a network of innovators dedicated to new forms of learning for the digital age, and director of the Futures Initiative, a CUNY-wide program to promote collaborative and participatory innovation in higher education. Also participating in the conference from Niagara University were Dr. Paul Vermette, Sharon Green and Danyelle Moore.
Niagara University’s 14th annual CCTL conference on Teaching and Learning will take place Jan. 7-8, 2015. Registration opens on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014.
