Castellani Art Museum presents “Calligraffiti: Shifting Traditions”

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University will host a program exploring calligraffiti: an interpretation of traditional Arabic calligraphy in new, open directions. Led by Muhammad Z. Zaman, a Buffalo based calligrapher, attendees will learn about calligraffiti’s fluid form: including the use of non-Arabic languages in that traditional aesthetic.

During the program, Muhammad will discuss a wide range of topics: from motivations to adaptations, and from techniques to themes. Attendees can contribute to a communal artmaking project, as well as participate in an open forum discussing the shifting intersections of traditional art and cultural identity. This event is free and light refreshments will be provided.  For more information, please contact Edward Y. Millar, curator of folk arts, at ext. 8290.
