CCTL Workshop Series – Nov. 13

In Today's Events, by , on November 13th, 2018

CCTL is proud to announce the beginning of the CCTL Worskhop Series in which accomplished professors will present their pedagogical strategies in a brown-bag type session. Our first one will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13th at 3:40 in the New Group Study Room on the Southeast Corner of the Main Floor of the library.   Please save the date.  Our presenter is Dr. Joel Louwsma.  And note – no mathematical background is assumed (despite the impressive/intimidating title):

Workshop Topic: Inquiry-oriented activities in Linear Algebra

In this workshop, Joel Louwsma will demonstrate a teaching strategy that was implemented in Linear Algebra (spring 2018) and discuss how it compares with instructional approaches in other disciplines. In this course, many of the most important concepts were introduced—not through lecture—but by having students work in small groups on carefully selected tasks. Standard terminology and notation for major concepts were then introduced as they came up in the whole-class discussion that followed.

All are welcome; no mathematical background is assumed.
