Cris is a two-time graduate of Niagara University, earning a bachelor’s degree in social studies education in 1974 and a master’s degree in school counseling in 1979. After receiving her undergraduate diploma, Cris substitute taught for a year on Long Island before returning to Monteagle Ridge as an admissions counselor on July 1, 1975.
While excelling as a recruiter, Cris soon put her organizational skills to work, taking on the additional responsibilities of writing letters to prospective students and families, implementing strategic admissions communications flows, coordinating student search outreach and mailings, revising promotional literature, and fine-tuning yield campaigns.

Over the years, Cris managed budgets, became the point person with external vendors (including on- and off-campus printing), generated counselor recruitment territories, and supervised operations. She worked on the literature needed when NU hosted the annual conference of the New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC) in 2010.

Cris proved her mettle and steadily progressed up the organizational chart, first to assistant director, then associate director and senior associate director, and, later to director of first-year enrollment. She’ll complete her time at NU with the title of director of enrollment enhancement, a role that has her supporting Enrollment Marketing on freshman and transfer literature projects, collaborating with the Niagara University Senior Term Enrichment Program (NUSTEP) to optimize enrollment, and participating in transfer recruitment efforts.

Throughout her career, Cris has remained steadfastly committed to developing meaningful relationships amongst her colleagues and students. Always the voice of reason and a willing listener, she has graciously mentored countless professionals  and has helped thousands of young people take the first steps toward unlocking their full potential at Niagara University

This past May, Cris was selected by the Niagara Orleans Counselor Association (NOCA) as its 2022 Counselor of the Year in recognition of her remarkable service to the industry.

Cris and her husband, Mike, are blessed to soon have more time to spend with their growing family.

To celebrate Cris and her time at NU, we invite you to visit the Gacioch Great Room on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 3-4:30 p.m. for some light refreshments and the opportunity to congratulate Cris on her well-deserved retirement!
