In accordance with its Catholic and Vincentian mission, Niagara University challenged its students to help people in need – and they certainly responded.

A campus-wide competition held earlier this month to see which of Niagara’s four academic colleges (and Academic Exploration Program) could collect the most items for individuals impacted by hurricanes Harvey and Irma netted more than 1,200 essential supplies.

The items were shipped to Houston, Texas, on Sept. 16.

The competition was organized by the university’s newly transformed IMPACT program, formerly known as Learn and Serve Niagara. The effort invited students to donate necessities – such as clothing, first aid kits, hygiene products, bedding, toys, phone chargers, extension cords, and cleaning and school supplies – in collection bins, which were labeled by college and located on the Gallagher Center’s lower level.
