Discussion Panel on the Sex Abuse Crisis and the Church’s Response

In Announcements, by , on April 29th, 2019

Niagara University’s Center for the Study and Practice of Religion and Office of Mission Integration will be co-sponsoring a discussion panel on the issue of sex abuse and the Catholic Church’s response on Thursday, May 2nd from 6:30-8:00pm in DUNL 127. One of the primary motivations for the event is the overwhelming response by Niagara students to a survey on this issue conducted by the Center earlier this semester. There will be brief remarks from each panelist, followed by a question and answer session open to the audience. The panelists include:

  • Mr. Thomas Beecher: Attorney and leader in the Movement to Restore Trust (https://movementtorestoretrust.org/), an independent organization in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo seeking to enact reform and restore trust and confidence in the Church.
  • Dr. Dana Radatz: Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice and expert on victimization
  • Reverend Aidan Rooney, C.M.: Vice President for Mission Integration at Niagara University
  • Dr. Craig Rivera: Associate Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice and Director of the Center for the Study and Practice of Religion

It will be a great opportunity ask questions, share your thoughts, and to engage in conversation about the crisis and pathways forward. Niagara University students, employees, and members of the broader community are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please contact Craig Rivera (cjr@niagara.edu; 286-8095) with any questions about the event.
