Do you need new technology ideas to enhance your class?
A Teaching and Learning conversation will be held on Oct. 28, at 11 a.m., in St. Vincent’s Hall, Room 107, about a new piece of technology that a fellow professor, Caitlin Regal in education, is using. The following is a description of what she will be presenting and she will also show you how you can use it in your class. Hope to see you there.
Socrative is a set of free apps (seen above) that empower instructors to engage and assess students as learning happens.
Through the use of real-time questioning, result aggregation, and visualization, the instructor has instant insight into levels of understanding so they can use class time to better collaborate and grow as a community of learners. The apps can be downloaded for free on any iPhone, iPad, smart phone, or used via computer. Both a student and teacher apps exist, making functionality clear for the intended user.
With a user friendly interface, instructors can create exit tickets, multiple choice questions to test comprehension, short answer or true/false quizzes, and can have students “race” to answer questions individually or in groups. The content is customized ahead of time and feedback is instant. Records can be exported to excel or PDF files for the instructor to review.
Students can also utilize the Socrative app in presentations, allowing them to instantly determine whether students are following along.
