In Today's Events, by , on March 3rd, 2015

The university has been notified a one-hour mandatory electric reduction event which will occur today, March 3, 2015, between the hours of  6 – 7 p.m.

The university participates in an energy curtailment plan which requires us to reduce our consumption when requested to do so during times of need (inclement weather, natural disasters etc.) to reduce the demand on the electric grid. For this reduction the university is compensated monetarily.

We request that you make every attempt to curtail your electric energy consumption for the one hour designated. Some ways that you can reduce your consumption is:

In offices, we can:

  1. Turn off or do not use electric power devices such as:
  • Computers
  • Copiers
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Portable heaters
  • Fans
  • Radios
  1. Turn off lights
  2. Take stairs instead of elevators
  3. Avoid using microwaves

In resident areas, we can:

  1. Turn off or do not use electric power devices such as:
  • Game Consoles, such as X-box and Playstation
  • Microwave Ovens
  • Portable Heaters
  • Portable Fans
  • Radios and Stereos
  • Battery and Device Chargers
  • Televisions
  1. Turn off your computer if not needed
  2. Do not do laundry during this period
  3. Avoid running dishwashers
  4. Turn off all lights if not needed
  5. Turn down the heat
  6. Take the stairs instead of using the elevators
  7. Avoid using copy machines

Once again, the university’s Sustainable Committee will receive a significant amount of money from our reduction to support green initiatives on campus if we are successful in significantly reducing our energy usage.

Thank-you for your cooperation
