Electric Energy Curtailment Feb. 16, 2022
The University has been notified of a 1-hour mandatory electric reduction event which will occur February 16, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The university participates in an energy curtailment plan which requires us to reduce our consumption when requested to do so during times of need (inclement weather, natural disasters etc.) to reduce the demand on the electric grid. For this reduction the university is compensated.
We request that you make every attempt to curtail your electric energy consumption for the 1 hour designated. Curtailment must begin before the 6:00 p.m. start time and continue until after 7:00 p.m. as we are required to curtail for the full hour to obtain the maximum pay out.
Some ways to reduce your consumption is:
- Turn off or do not use electric power devices such as: microwave ovens, portable hearts, portable fans, radios and stereos, battery and device chargers, and televisions
- Turn off your computer if not needed
- Avoid running dishwashers
- Turn off all lights if not needed
- Turn off A/C
- Take the stairs instead of using the elevators
- Avoid using copy machines and printers
Please share this information with your coworkers so they may participate and we can obtain the maximum curtailment and associated revenue.
Once again, the University will receive a significant amount of money from our reduction to support ongoing improvements on campus if we are successful in significantly reducing our energy usage.
