Dr. Paul Richardson (Business) to Present Research
The Faculty Research Colloquium began in the fall of 2010, designed to showcase some of the research being done here at Niagara and to foster conversations across disciplines. Each session involves a brief presentation geared to a general audience followed by Q and A. There is no paper to read ahead of time.
The first colloquium for the 2013-14 academic year will take place this Thursday, October 24, from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m., in Dunleavy 329.

Does It Pay to Promote on eBay?
eBay is one of the largest corporations in the world. The site has over 200 million registered users. There are over 600 million listings per quarter with over 1 billion page views per day. eBay is also a major source of job creation with over 1.3 million businesses established to sell on eBay. This research investigates the effectiveness of promotional upgrades and other marketing strategies on auction outcomes. The results show that a key determinant of promotional effectiveness is the degree to which marketing vehicles can separate high from low quality vendors. The findings validate key principles of signaling theory from the economics literature.
