Farewell to Sr. Nora Gatto
In mid-August, Sr. Nora Gatto, D.C., will complete her ministry as director of mission and ministry. She has been missioned to Bayside, N.Y., beginning in September. Her last day at NU will be on Friday, Aug. 16, and there will be an opportunity to wish her well before her departure.
Sr. Nora has a long history with Niagara University, going back to her time as executive director of mission and ministry from 2003-2008. From 2010-2018, she served on the Board of Trustees and, upon completing her term, she was named Trustee Emerita. In 2018, the university conferred on her the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D), “honoris causa.”
Her great love for Niagara motivated her to return in fall 2023. Last year, she served on the president’s cabinet and contributed to various committees. She led Campus Ministry in refining its goals in three areas: liturgy, retreats, and service immersion. Sr. Nora also reinstituted the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, preparing three Niagara students for the Sacrament of Confirmation. In the area of mission, she assisted me in questions of mission integration and planning.
In a word, she remained true to her own mission statement. I quote, “I am passionate about serving and knowing young people and will continue to do so, both directly and indirectly, throughout the rest of my life.”
Please join the mission sector in thanking Sr. Nora for her valuable contribution to Niagara University.
Fr. Greg Semeniuk, C.M., VP Mission and Ministry
