Father Maher Presents Keynote Address, Signs MOUs In Turkey
The Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., Niagara University president, presented the keynote address during an interreligious conference held in Istanbul, Turkey, on June 9.
“Sacred Texts and Human Contexts: Poverty and Wealth in the Sacred Texts of Judaism, Christianity and Islam,” which was held at Fatih University, involved close to 60 U.S. scholars who joined their Turkish colleagues to discuss the themes of poverty and wealth in the three monotheistic religions. It was conceived as a means of contributing to the dialogue between religions, especially Islam, Christianity and Judaism.
While in Turkey, Father Maher, Dr. Hung Le, vice president for international relations, and Dr. Mustafa Gokcek, associate professor of history and a native of Turkey, also met and signed memorandums of understanding with administrators from several Turkish educational institutions.
