Father Maher Runs With ‘Flame Of Hope’ To Support Special Olympics
The Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of Niagara University, ran four miles this afternoon in tandem with local law enforcement personnel, Special Olympians and NU students and employees in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Participants, led by Father Maher, carried the “Flame of Hope” through the streets of Lewiston, commencing at the Kiernan Center and ending at the Red Brick School in Lewiston.
At race time, Niagara University had raised the most financial support of any team participating in the Buffalo leg of the event.
Last year, Father Maher became the first university president in the Western Region to ever participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
