Free 4-session workshop on Latin and Greek Words Parts
Latin – Greek Sharon Green, coordinator of instruction services in the Office of Academic Support, is offering a free four-session workshop on Latin and Greek Words Parts. As noted on the attached flyer, to accommodate more students it will be offered at two different times: Mondays from 2:30 – 3:25 p.m. and Tuesdays from 3:40 – 4:40 p.m., starting Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 respectively. This workshop is designed to help students increase their understanding of English words by gaining word-attack skills. In each session, students will learn 25 Latin and Greek prefixes, suffixes, and roots, as well as examples of English words containing these word parts. Because relatively few students today take Latin or Greek, they may lack the ability to analyze words, which may cause them to miss meaning when they read.
This four-session workshop is open to all students, but it may be especially helpful for students…
– with a limited vocabulary
– whose first language is not English
– who are taking heavy reading courses (such as history, philosophy, and psychology)
– who may attend graduate school
– who are interested in the origin of English words
