Free Mental Health Training Offerings

In Announcements, by , on January 27th, 2021

Continuing the momentum of Mental Health Awareness Week in November 2020, the Levesque Institute is once again offering free mental health training opportunities during January and February 2021. These trainings aim to provide the Niagara University community with the basic knowledge of how to assist those who are experiencing a mental illness or crisis. Two trainings will be available:

Mental Health First Aid (7-hour, 2 self guided, virtual)
 February 8, 2021 from 9 AM – 2 PM (2 hour pre-work required)
 February 19, 2021 from 9 AM – 2 PM (2 hour pre-work required)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches participants how to assist people who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. Niagara University faculty and staff
would benefit from this training to best address mental health related issues in our campus community. More information can be found: http://levesqueinstitute.niagara.edu/programs/mental-health-

Gatekeeper: Mental Health Basics & QPR (2 hour, virtual)
 January 21, 1:00 – 3:00 PM
 February 12, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
 February 22, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

QPR training helps participants identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders. We highly encourage Niagara University students to participate in this training to be able to address signs and symptoms in peers. More information can be found at:
