Hall of Famer Bowman Headlines Evening Benefiting Niagara Hockey
The Niagara University Department of Athletics will host an evening with Hockey Hall of Famer Scotty Bowman to benefit Purple Eagles hockey. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29 in St. Vincent’s Hall 405-406.
Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6:00 p.m. Opening remarks will be made by Niagara University Director of Athletics Simon Gray and head hockey coach Jason Lammers.
Bowman’s coaching career in the league spanned more than three decades and included stints with the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings. He won nine Stanley Cup Championships during his career, including five in Montreal and one in Pittsburgh. He earned his final three titles in Detroit, including one in his final season as a coach in 2001-02. Bowman was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991. In 2009, Bowman was given an honorary Doctorate of Pedagogy from Niagara University.
