Justice Speaker Series is Back! Two Events Next Week!

In Announcements, by , on October 2nd, 2020
The pandemic has not slowed us down… the 2020 Social Justice Speaker Series has seven upcoming events planned for the fall semester!  It is a veritable treasure trove of speakers, panel discussions, and presentations on anti-oppression, fascism, ICE detention facilities and what to do about them, reparations and black liberation, fighting for the rights of nature, and resisting the Amazon empire.

Everyone is invited–the series will be presented virtually through Zoom webinar–and we will have a live audience based in the Castellani with some limited room for socially-distant guest attendees (if you’d like to attend in person or to have a class attend, please contact me directly; and note that all speakers will be participating via zoom).

The full Social Justice Speaker Series for the fall semester is detailed in the attached document.  Registration for some events is required–just click on the link for the event and you will receive the webinar access information.  You are welcome to sign up for as many as you like, and please invite students, friends, networks, and allies to participate.

The flyer for our first event is attached: Julia Feliz on The Praxis of Consistent Anti-Oppression: Moving Forward by Going Backwards?  The event takes place on Tuesday, October 6th from 7-9 PM; a description is below.

And please note that we’ll have an expert panel of investigative reporters, researchers, immigration attorneys, and activists speak on ICE detention facilities on Thursday, October 8th from 1:30-2:45 PM.  Recent reports of $1-a-day wages for detainee labor in Batavia and of forced sterilizations in other facilities beg the question of whether these facilities are modern day concentration camps in America.  We will explore this and what we, as community members, can do about it during this important panel discussion.

We hope you can join us for the start of the 5th year of this series and we look forward to your participation and active engagement in these important discussions!  Please let me know if I can answer any questions or provide more information.

In solidarity and with appreciation for your support and participation,
