Light Therapy for Seasonal Depression Now Available in the Library
Do you experience sadness and/or decreased motivation as the days become shorter and winter approaches? While many people love the onset of fall and its seemingly infinite pumpkin spice offerings, less daylight and more darkness can result in the “winter blues” or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) for other people.
Librarian Samantha Gust read an article about how a public library in Kansas provides a few light therapy lamps for use within its library and wanted to offer a similar service at Niagara University Library. She gained support from psychology professor Dr. Timothy Osberg and library director David Schoen, and NU Library now has four lamps you may check out for in-library use.
Stop at the Circulation Desk to borrow a lamp, or contact Samantha Gust at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Samantha will be present from 11am-1pm to demonstrate the lamps during the Depression Screening in the LLGC on October 5th.
