Message from facility services: Electric Energy Curtailment Event Notification TODAY
We have been notified by NYISO that an electric reduction event has been activated for today, Aug. 27, from 3 – 4 p.m. The university participates in a summer season Power Pay Demand Response Program in which we reduce our consumption and are compensated monetarily. This is our only event during the summer and our payment will depend on the amount of energy we conserve. We request that you make every attempt to curtail your electric energy consumption for the designated time period. Some ways that you can reduce your consumption is:
In offices we can:
- Turn off or do not use electric power devices such as
- Computers
- Copiers
- Pencil sharpeners
- Fans
- Radios
- Turn off lights
- Take the stairs instead of elevators
- Avoid using microwaves
In resident areas we can:
- Turn off or do not use electric power devices such as
- Games consoles (X-box, Playstation)
- Microwaves
- Portable fans
- Radios/stereos
- Battery and device chargers
- Televisions
- Turn off your computer if not needed
- Do not do laundry during this period
- Avoid running dishwashers
- Turn off all lights if not needed
- Take the stairs instead of using the elevators
- Avoid using copy machines
Once again, the university’s sustainable committee will receive the money from our reduction to support green initiative on campus if we are successful in significantly reducing our energy usage.
Thank you for your cooperation.
