On Sunday, Sept. 4, Pope Francis declared “Blessed Teresa of Calcutta to be a saint.”

A little more than 34 years before Mother Teresa, who devoted her life to helping India’s poor, was declared a saint, she graced the commencement stage at Niagara University.

On May 30, 1982, the “saint of the gutters” was granted an honorary doctorate before providing the commencement address to the graduating class.

Watch (and read) her address here.
