It is important to consider how effectively we are interacting with issues of diversity and supporting others. Multicultural competence is defined as “The ability to work ethically and effectively with people of similar or dissimilar cultural backgrounds, by demonstrating a certain level of multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills (Pope, Reynolds & Mueller, 2004). Similarly ally development is the ability to work with, and in support of others of different cultural and social backgrounds. Both require ongoing development, reflection, dialog, throughout our lives.
