elebrate National Women’s History Month at Niagara University throughout the month of March. Look for feature stories about Niagara University staff and faculty this month by the students of PRSSN, a table staffed by student club Feminism Today in Gally, talks on Women in Islam (sponsored by the Muslim Student Alliance) and African Feminisms (The latter by NU’s Dr. Haoua Hamza from the College of Education), the annual Take Back the Night event, and the talk, Civil Rights and the Supreme Court, sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs. We hope to see you there!

March 14-16 – Feminism Today
Gallagher Center
12-2 p.m.
The student group Feminism Today will host a table in Gallagher Center where it will address issues like equal pay, fighting street harassment, and other ways that it’s fighting for equality for future generation.

March 15 – Women in Islam
Gallagher Center, Multi-Purpose Room
5:30 p.m.

The Niagara University Muslim Student Alliance presents a panel of experts, including Dr. Amelia Gallagher, associate professor of religious studies at NU, April Arman, a licensed social worker for domestic violence issues at Catholic Charities, and Alana Arman.

March 16 – African Feminisms by Dr. Haoua Hamza
Gallagher Center, Lower Level
2-3:30 p.m.
A Diversity of Thoughts in African Feminism: Sisters Managing Tensions, Affinities and Hope Rooted in a Triple Heritage of Traditions, Islam and the West.

This exposé seeks to share some insights into various experiences that animate African feminism with its similarities with, differences as well as impacts from Islam and the west. It is a nuanced approach that examines the complexities, tensions and turning points while guarding us from presenting the issues through the lens of the uninformed and privileged few on the continent and outside.

March 30 – Take Back the Night
The Niagara University community shows that together we have the POWER to stop the violence. Enough is enough. Step up. Speak out.

Gallagher Center – Doors open at 7 p.m.
7-7:30 p.m. – Resource tables and poster making
7:30-8 p.m. – Formal program
8 p.m. – March through campus to protest against domestic violence and sexual assault. The march will conclude at the Alumni Chapel, where there will be a candlelight vigil in honor of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors and victims.

April 6 – “Civil Rights and the Supreme Court”
Facilitated by the Office of Multicultural Affairs

Discussion of judicial rulings that influenced women’s rights and equality.
