Dr. Christian Elia, an assistant professor of education at Niagara University’s campus in Ontario, was recently presented with the Order of Malta’s Bronze Medal, Order pro Merito Melitensib, in recognition of having conferred “honour and prestige on the Sovereign Military Order of Malta” through the Hunger Patrol program.
The award was conferred in Rome on June 24 on the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, and presented to Dr. Elia in Ottawa on Sept. 9.
Dr. Elia, who is a member of the Canadian Association of the Order, with the rank of Knight of Magistral Grace, coordinates Hunger Patrol. The program entails the preparation and delivery of homemade soup every Saturday evening to the homeless and poor in three Toronto-area locations.
