NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. (September 8, 2020) – Niagara University has received a $300,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) to strengthen its ongoing efforts to educate about and respond to sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking on campus.

Through the three-year Grant to Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking (DVDVSAS) on Campus, Niagara University will coordinate campus prevention and responses to DVDVSAS, with emphasis on strengthening and expanding its efforts beyond the mandated requirements of New York state’s “Enough is Enough” legislation.

Most recently, Emily Buzzard a full-time project director has been hired to oversee training and educational campaigns for the campus community. Niagara’s OVW Campus Program will include the establishment of a coordinated community response team who will assist and support the
project director in informing, assessing, designing, and implementing Niagara’s prevention, education, and responses to DVDVSAS.

“I am very excited to serve in this new role for the Niagara University community,” stated Ms. Buzzard. “This grant has provided a great opportunity to create change, strengthen ongoing efforts, and incorporate DVDVSAS prevention work into the culture of the campus. I look forward to collaborating with faculty, staff, and students on this effort and making a positive impact on the community.”

Ms. Buzzard’s office will be located in Campus Activities where she will have the opportunity to collaborate with many different student offices and organizations. In an effort to welcome and meet Emily, we would like to extend an invitation to the campus community to stop by at any point in the Campus Activities Office on Wednesday, February 17th from 9:00am to 12:00pm to grab a cup of coffee and say hello to Emily!

The OVW grants are awarded to help institutions of higher education implement comprehensive, coordinated responses to violent crimes on campus through partnerships with victim services providers and justice agencies. The OVW supports institutions of higher education in implementing comprehensive, coordinated responses to violent crimes through partnerships with victim services providers and justice agencies.
