NU Athletics To Hold Coaches Luncheon on Sept. 21

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – In anticipation for the 2017-18 season, the Niagara University Department of Athletics will hold a coaches luncheon featuring men’s basketball head coach Chris Casey, hockey head coach Jason Lammers, and women’s basketball head coach Jada Pierce on September 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the Clet Hall Dining Commons at Niagara University. Admission to the event is $8.

Casey is in his fifth season in charge leading the Purple Eagles, who return eight letter winners from last season including the starting five – Kahlil Dukes, Chris Barton, Matt Scott, Marvin Prochet and Dominic Robb. Niagara begins the season at Little 3 rival St. Bonaventure on Nov. 10 and opens its home schedule on Nov. 24 against Alabama A&M.

Lammers was named head coach of the hockey program on April 24. Lammers, who brings 15 years of collegiate coaching experience to Monteagle Ridge, most recently spent two seasons as the head coach and general manager of the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the United States Hockey League (USHL).The Purple Eagles retain over 75 percent of their total scoring from last season, highlighted by leading scorers Stanislav Dzakhov (17 points), Kris Spriggs (16), and Johnny Curran and Noah Delmas (15). Niagara starts its 34-game regular season schedule at Colgate on Sept. 30 and begins its 16-game home schedule versus Robert Morris on Oct. 6.

Pierce returns for her third season as head coach of the Purple Eagles women’s basketball team. Niagara returns 11 from last year’s squad, including redshirt-senior forward Victoria Rampado, who led the MAAC in scoring with 16.8 points per game and was an All-MAAC Second Team honoree. The Purple Eagles open the season at St. Bonaventure on Nov. 10 as part of a doubleheader with the men’s teams, and play their first home game two days later against Saint Joseph’s.
