The Niagara University men’s club volleyball team competed in the “Eastern Collegiate Northwest Division II Volleyball Championships, held at University of Rochester Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017.

NU had the smallest team of any school in the 18 field tournament. The team is under direction of first-year coach Corey Reid, who is also an employee in Facility Services.

Led by British standout James Purkiss and pinpoint serving by Sam Anderson, the team was able to knock off Ithaca College, SUNY Oswego, and Onondaga Community College, and make it to the semifinals!

In the semifinals, playing against the No. 1 seed Siena College, Niagara was able to push the match to the third set, thanks in part to a total of five aces in the second match. Even though Niagara was close to pulling off the biggest upset of the tournament, the fact that NU was able to surpass its win total from the past three seasons combined is amazing progress in such a short time! The members of the Niagara men’s club volleyball team represent the NU community with heart, passion and a ton of fortitude.

Their coach could not be any prouder of them and the effort they continue to display week in and week out! The future looks bright with this program. GO Purple Eagles!
