NU Community ‘Walks A Mile’ To Raise Sexual Assault Awareness
On Thursday, April 23, Niagara University held its first-ever Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event. The event drew a total of 125 students, including members of NU’s Army ROTC program, men’s club rugby and a variety of student-athletes, in addition to faculty, staff and coaches.
The one-mile walk around campus, led by students carrying a banner and wearing teal ribbons in support of sexual assault awareness, concluded with an ice cream social in the Gallagher Center.
The event was coordinated by Rachel Duval, a graduate assistant in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, in conjunction with Campus Activities and the Purple Eagle Battalion. It was held in observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and as part of Ridgefest, Niagara University’s annual end-of-the-year celebration. Ridgefest is organized by the Traditions Committee, consisting of members of the Niagara University Student Government Association and Campus Programming Board.
The office of Health Services and Counseling Services distributed educational resources and support during event registration.
