NU Partnering With Catholic Charities To Develop Hospitality & Tourism Training Institute
Niagara University, in partnership with Catholic Charities of Buffalo, will provide employment retention skills, job preparation and transition services through a new Hospitality & Tourism Training Institute (HTTI) for unemployed refugees in economically challenged areas.
The move is part of an overall strategy put in place by Niagara’s president, the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., to help the university’s surrounding community. Niagara University also spearheaded the establishment of the Niagara Global Tourism Institute to spur tourism in the iconic area that is home to Niagara Falls.
The Western New York Regional Economic Development Council (WNYREDC) and The Statler Foundation recently awarded two grants totaling $200,000 to Catholic Charities of Buffalo. The nonprofit organization then partnered with Niagara University’s esteemed College of Hospitality and Tourism Management to develop the training institute, which will focus on providing unemployed workers with the skills they need for a sustainable career path in the tourism and hospitality industry.
The program will begin later this month.
