NU student receives internal award

In Sept. 2014, assistant general counsel Ryan Thompson jokingly made a promise to the office’s new student worker Christopher Selak that if he obtained tax exempt status for Niagara University in at least 20 states, they would buy him a plaque. Two years later, that “joke” became a reality.

General counsel Stephanie (Cole) Adams, legal secretary Katie Cauley, undergraduate worker Erin Dugan and Thompson presented the much anticipated plaque to Selak on Monday. When asked to sum up his experience, Chris simply said, “It was long.”

Whether playing basketball in Utah or taking tree samples from the Redwood Forest in California, the two-year endeavor will save the university a great deal of money across the Unites States for years to come.

For a full list of the 30+ states that Niagara University is now tax exempt in, go to the NU Contracts Database at https://mynu.niagara.edu/mynu3/resources/contracts/. The certificates are all accessible and available for download to NU employees conducting business out of state.
