NU Women’s Rugby Crowned 2018-2019 NSCRO State Champions!
It’s been a long journey since Niagara Women’s Rugby was crowned top in their division. There were a lot of new pieces this year such as coaching staff, new players, and a new game strategy that helped set the pace for one of the most remarkable seasons the team has ever seen. Hard work and dedication was embedded in all of the girls from the captains to the non-experienced players. Rugby is not about the fastest or strongest person on the field, it’s about a team that works hard and plays as one. During their Fall season, Women’s Rugby had impressive wins which captivated many and went on to becoming #1 in their division and #2 in the State.
Going into the season the team knew they had potential and were tired of falling short. After finishing the regular season with an undefeated record, the team hosted playoff games against Potsdam and Oswego. After knocking off Potsdam by a score of 44-7 in the first round, they faced a tough opponent in Oswego. The game came down to the wire but Niagara took the lead with less than two minutes remaining and held on to win 7-5. Post season was going to be tough but losing was not an option. This was the time to press the gas on training and critiquing their mistakes to become the 2018-2019 NSCRO State Champions!
