NYS Paid COVID-19 Vaccination Leave
On March 12, 2021, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation granting public and private employees in New York State time off to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Under this new law, employees will be granted sufficient time, up to four (4) hours, of excused leave per injection that will not be charged against any other leave the employee has earned or accrued. The law also prohibits discrimination or retaliation against an employee who requests or obtains vaccine leave. The law took effect immediately and will expire on December 31, 2022.
Should an employee need time from work to receive their COVID-19 vaccine(s), the employee should alert their supervisor as soon as possible upon scheduling their appointment(s).
If any additional guidance is received from New York State regarding specific requirements of this new law, we will keep you informed. Full details regarding this law may be found on the NYS Governor website.
