Poetry Reading: Nov. 7
To help bring the thriving world of poetry to Niagara University, Professor Max Stephan has initiated a new reading series on campus focused on promoting writers of Western New York. The series is divided into two parts: during the Fall semester, three young, ambitious poets are invited to read their work; while the Spring semester invests in only one writer, more well-known and established.
This year, Niagara University is proud to have invited Josh Smith, Megan Kemple, and Julio Montalvo Valentin.
Place: Castellani Art Museum
Date: Wednesday, Nov. 7th
Time: 7:00p.m.
Free and open to the public
Last year’s pilot series received rave reviews from those who attended. The 2017 Fall ticket included Nathanael William Stolte and Justin Karcher, both from Buffalo; and Autumn Echo, from Jamestown. And in Spring of 2018, Janet McNally read from her award-winning book of poetry, “Some Girls”, and her recently released novel “The Looking Glass”. For both events, students in Professor Stephan’s Poetry and Creative Writing courses were able to read and study samples of their work prior to the event.
“Western New York Writers” is an amazing series which helps Niagara University students see first hand that the written word is not only a literary art, but that it can be a performance as well – up close and personal.
