The Niagara USA Chamber recently announced Niagara University as the 2019 recipient of the “Green Initiative Award” for its work with campus wide conversion to LED lighting.  Implemented by the Facility Services department, 16,900 fluorescent tubes in 30 campus buildings were replaced with LED bulbs which increased the lighting brightness in most areas by 20% while decreasing electric consumption for lighting by more than 50%.  This initiative resulted in reducing Niagara University’s carbon footprint by over 1 million lbs.  National Grid will provide almost $51,000 in rebates to help offset the cost of the conversion, and electric savings to the University are estimated at $80,000 annually.  The award will be presented at the Niagara USA Chamber Annual Honors Gala on March 15, 2019 at the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino.
