Should we care what others think about us?

In Announcements, by , on April 14th, 2015

Dr. Philip Reed of Canisius College will present the 2015 Albertus Magnus Lecture, hosted by the department of philosophy. The lecture is open to the public and take place at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, in the Golisano Center auditorium, Room 101. Dr. Reed will be speaking on whether we should care what others think about us. Christians in particular commonly hold that we are not supposed to act in order to acquire praise, esteem, or honor from others. In his talk, Dr. Reed will examine and evaluate this presumption against caring what others think about us, and argue that it is sometimes permissible for Christians to have concern about the opinions of others, at least in certain contexts and depending on one’s social role.
