Tomorrow! Faculty Institute on Teaching (FIT) – Please RSVP

In Upcoming Events, by , on May 8th, 2017

Join the CASTL and Instructional Support for the inaugural Faculty Institute on Teaching (FIT) on May 9 in VINI 301.

Dr. Carol Van Zile-Tamsen, the associate director of the UB Curriculum at the University at Buffalo, will present the hands-on workshop “Designing Effective Classroom Measures to Assess Student Learning.”

The focus of this interactive session will be on the development of objective classroom assessments, such as quizzes, tests, and exams, to effectively and efficiently assess student learning and achievement of desired outcomes. We will start from the ground up, building on the foundation of key learning outcomes to design an assessment blueprint, develop appropriate questions, and explore methods for reviewing the effectiveness of the questions. We will be doing hands-on activities for each stage of the process, and faculty are encouraged to bring materials for courses where they are seeking to develop or revise classroom assessments.

This voluntary event kicks off with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Van Zile-Tamsen’s workshop runs from 9 to 11 a.m., roundtable discussions of the results of the Student Feedback Project from 11 to noon, and the session wraps up with a drawing for an iPad mini tablet for one lucky attendee. This event is open to all full- and part-time (adjunct) faculty. Please RSVP to Sierra at ssadare@niagara.edu.
