Tomorrow is Teach Me Tuesday: Here’s What’s Happening

In Announcements, by , on April 19th, 2021

“Spring into Service” continues with Teach Me Tuesday! Activities of the day surround education, including:

Bystander Intervention Training: This interactive training will teach you Hollaback!’s 5Ds of bystander intervention methodology. We’ll start by talking about the types of disrespect that Asian and Asian American folks are facing right now — from microaggressions to violence — using a tool we call the “spectrum of disrespect.” You’ll learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities. We’ll talk through five strategies for intervention: distract, delegate, document, delay, and direct; and how to prioritize your own safety while intervening. We’ll have time at the end for practice, and you’ll leave feeling more confident intervening the next time you see Anti-Asian/American harassment online or in person.

Time: 6:00 PM through Zoom

Book in a Box: Students will be volunteering with Niagara University’s re-imagined Books, Balls, and Blocks – now called Book in a Box! Book in a Box is a free, exciting way to bring fun games, stories, art activities, and developmental screenings to children from 4 months to 5 years old. Student volunteers will assist with packaging and mailing the activities to over 100 families throughout Niagara County. To learn more about Book in a Box visit www.niagara.edu/bookinabox.

Don’t forget – if you are participating in an act of service during National Volunteer Week share your service using #NUSpringIntoService on social media or visiting http://levesqueinstitute.niagara.edu/impact/service-week-2021/ to report what you did. More information about the week’s events can also be found on the website.

Activities of the week are made possible through a partnership between IMPACT, the Levesque Institute, Campus Ministry, NUSGA, the Brennan Center, and Active Minds. A special thank you to Campus Activities for incorporating service opportunities into RidgeFest events!
