CAM and NACC Exhibitions Tour with Alberto Rey and Tricia Butski on Thursday, June 22

In Niagara News, by , on June 16th, 2023

Join the Castellani Art Museum (CAM) and the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center (NACC) on Thursday, June 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. for a two-site exhibition walkthrough featuring Biological Regionalism: Niagara River, Western New York by Alberto Rey, and COHORT: An Alberto Rey Alumni Exhibition, respectively.

At CAM: Rey will offer an artist talk on his new exhibition. This exhibition—the 12th in Rey’s Biological Regionalism series—explores the complexities of the sacred Niagara River and Falls past and present. Utilizing lushly illustrated narratives, his large-scale paintings reflect the Niagara River’s historical significance to Native Americans, enslaved people, and the pollution of the river and communities along its 36-mile stretch of U.S. and Canadian shores.

At NACC: Following Rey’s artist talk, curator Tricia Butski will look at the practices of more than 30 of Rey’s alumni at the NACC in the current exhibition, COHORT. This group exhibition considers Rey’s painting and artistic practices of invited alumni from his career as an educator at the State University of New York at Fredonia from 1989 to 2022.
