The Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., Niagara University president, was in Okinawa, Japan, last Sunday to sign a memorandum of understanding with Meio University.

The agreement denotes a formal interest between the institutions to collaborate on international student and faculty development initiatives. It is anticipated that students from Meio will study abroad at Niagara to pursue advanced degrees; however, some students will attend NU as undergraduates.

Meio University was established in 1994 as the only private institution of higher education in Okinawa. In 2010, it was reorganized as a public university and currently offers a diverse selection of undergraduate and graduate programs, including health and life sciences, nursing, liberal arts, tourism and business.
