Niagara University Joins Nationwide ‘Roll Call’ For Veterans Day
Niagara University’s campus fell silent at 2 p.m. today in a nationwide observance of American servicemen and women.
The moment of silence was preceded at NU by a series of happenings held in conjunction with the Remembrance Day National Roll Call, a national event that calls for a synchronized reading of the names of fallen American soldiers.
At noon, the university’s Student Veterans Organization presented a $5,000 check to the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., NU president, in support of the Sergeant Major Fred E. Kirtchen Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship assists returning military veterans who are attending Niagara University.
Following the check presentation, the recitation of names of American war casualties from New York state was performed by students, faculty, staff, community leaders and members of American Gold Star Mothers Inc.
